PSA: Nintendo 3DS firmware update now live in North America

Image

If your 3DS' home screen is looking a little too cluttered, then today's your lucky day. Nintendo is rolling out the firmware update that adds folders to your folder (You've gotta fold the console closed, geddit?). The only other change evident so far is a redesigned eShop interface that makes better use of the screen's real estate, but pssh, who cares? It's all about the folders for us.

Motorola RAZR HD running ICS spotted in the wild, 720p display in tow

Image

Last week, a Motorola engineer's Picasa album all but confirmed the existence of the Motorola Droid RAZR HD. And while we can't say his job has a future, it looks like this handset does. The latest leak includes some newly discovered blurry cam photos from China showing Motorola model MT887 running ICS. This matches the EXIF data posted by that errant engineer, which listed the RAZR HD's build as 4.0.3. According to the latest images, the RAZR HD sports a 4.3-inch display -- with an upgraded resolution of 720p -- though the other specs appear to match the current batch of RAZRs. As Android Community points out, that relatively bulky body could mean there's a 3,300mAH battery inside. That's all well and good -- unless Motorola also has a Droid HD RAZR Maxx set to launch a month after this guy. Then again, who would be so cruel as to pit your hopes for a higher-res RAZR against your dreams of an even longer-lasting smartphone?

ARM reports revenues up 14 percent, bicep-curling profits up 22 percent

UK-based chip designer ARM just announced another booming quarter, with revenue up by 13 percent to $209.4 million. Pre-tax profits were even stronger, growing 22 percent year-over-year to $100 million. Not a bad profit margin by anyone's standards, and due to entirely to the Cambridge outfit's business model, which has seen 22 new processor licenses signed this quarter. That includes everything from the smallest Cortex-M class chips for use in the "Internet of Things" right through to the mini-monster Cortex-A15. There were also two new signings for the Mali graphics core, which is still proving its worth in some of the latest Samsung Galaxy devices. Overall, the number of chips that went into mobile phones and mobile computers remained steady, but the shipment of chips for other types of consumer and embedded devices grew by 15 percent year-on-year, proving that ARM not only has muscle, but also fingers in pies.

Facebook updates S-1, adds Q1 earnings, revenue up 45% over last year

Facebook updates S-1, adds Q1 earnings

Facebook just filed an amended S-1 (that all important document that officially announces its public offering plans) with some new financial info. Now included in the charts and graphs is everything you wanted to know about Q1 of 2012 at Facebook (but were afraid to ask). The new SEC filing reveals that revenues are way up at the social network over last year (a whopping 45 percent higher than Q1 of 2011), but down slightly from last quarter (six percent), settling at a more than respectable $1.058 billion. Of the cash it took in, $872 million of it was ad revenue, which is down from Q4 of 2011 ($943 million) but up significantly from Q1 of last year ($731 million). Facebook was even able to slap a per-user amount on its 900 million active monthly members -- $1.21 -- that's the average revenue for each person with an account at the site. Of course, membership has continued to grow, with 532 million stopping by daily, up from 372 million just a year ago. As for that Instagram purchase, it looks like the widely reported $1 billion figure wasn't entirely accurate -- at least not when talking cold, hard cash. Only $300 million was turned over in immediately spendable currency, the rest of the deal involved 23 million shares of common stock. If you're a sucker for financials hit up the source link.

Keen On? Congresswoman Anna Eshoo: What Washington DC Can Learn From Silicon Valley [TCTV]

Screen Shot 2012-04-22 at 10.24.53 PMPersonal Democracy Forum CEO Andrew Rasiej told me that most American politicians don't know the difference between a waiter and a server. Perhaps. But one politician who certainly can distinguish between the two is Anna Eshoo, the Democratic Congresswoman for California's 14th District, which she has represented since 1993. As Silicon Valley's representative in DC, Eshoo not only knows her servers from her waiters, but is also well versed in complex technological policy such as spectrum, privacy and SOPA, as well as being a keen observer of the innovation that distinguishes Silicon Valley from the rest of the world.

PHOTO: Katy Perry Has a New Man (& It's Not Tim Tebow!)

Katy Perry wasn't just enjoying the music at Coachella -- she was also enjoying the company of a new guy! At the California music festival, which ended Sunday, the "Part of Me" singer was getting very affectionate with Robert Ackroyd, the guitarist from British indie band Florence + The Machine. The girl just can't resist a tall man with a British accent, can she?

Kim Kardashian's Kanye Earrings And Other Celeb PDA

Kim's KW studs join a long line of creative romantic gestures in Hollywood.

When it comes to the various ways in which celebrity couples offer up public displays of affection, the ante was raised yet again when Kim Kardashian was spotted over the weekend wearing earrings with the initials of rumored boyfriend Kanye West.

But Kim is hardly the first star to wear her heart on her sleeve (or in her ear). Let's take a look back at five other unique celeb PDA:

Tattoos
No matter how well De Beers has ingrained their slogan "A diamond is forever" into our brains, nothing says "I love you forever (hopefully)" like getting a tattoo of your lover's initials, name and/or face. There are so many examples of celebrity couples who have expressed their love via this method that we could write a separate story. The couples who immediately come to mind are Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey, who both got their first-ever ink in celebration of their marriage. Other examples: Tori Spelling's hubby Dean McDermott has his wife's face and décolletage on his arm, Marc Anthony had "Jennifer" on the inside of his wrist before their split, and David and Victoria Beckham.

Blood Bonds
Before there was Brangelina, there was the eyebrow-raising romance and eventual marriage between Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton. In addition to getting relationship-inspired tattoos to celebrate their love, Jolie surprised everyone by adorning her neck with an amulet that reportedly contained a few drops of Thornton's blood.

Music Videos
If you're a musician and in need of a love interest for your music video, why not invite your real-life love to make an appearance in said clip? In addition to several warm fuzzy stories that involve couples meeting on the sets of their music vids (Katherine Heigl and Josh Kelley, Enrique Iglesias and Anna Kournikova), there are plenty who have featured their boyfriends and girlfriends. Jennifer Lopez is the leading example, first with Ben Affleck's cameo in "Jenny From the Block" and most recently with new love Casper Smart in "Dance Again."

Social Media
The advent of Twitter has brought the world a lot of things — over-sharing chief among them. We've become privy to the inner-workings of celebrity couples, thanks to their back-and-forth interaction on the social-networking site. Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher basically kicked things off by frequently tweeting cute musings back and forth. They are survived by Khloé and Lamar Odom, Carey Hart and Pink, Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden, and Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey (again with the PDA!).

Nail Art
Before their very public breakup last year, Katy Perry took the whole PDA-by-body-art trend to another level when she showed up on the white carpet at the 2010 VMAs with then-husband Russell Brand's face printed onto her fingernails. The gesture was in part due to the fact that Brand wasn't able to attend the awards show that year, along with a tribute factor celebrating the couple's initial introduction at the awards show in 2009.

Where do Kim's Kanye earrings rank among celeb PDAs? Let us know what we missed in the comments!
